Tinnitus; Definition, Causes & Coping
DEFINITION
Tinnitus is hearing noises in your ear, for example, ringing, buzzing, whooshing, humming, hissing, throbbing and music. The symptoms may come and go.
CAUSES
The causes of Tinnitus are unclear but can be age-related, or being in an environment of loud noise or a build up of wax, and is also known to make you feel anxious.
COPING
This is not an exhaustive list but you may find something which helps you. Coping mechanisms can include;

try to relax and take deep breaths

improve your sleep routine

try to avoid stress or loud noises

try listening to soft music or sounds
-
hobbies and activities can be a good distraction
URGENT
-
You MUST contact your GP if Tinnitus beats in time to your pulse
OR -
Go to A&E if you experience Tinnitus following a head injury
